Continuing in our series of looking at where last year’s Silicon Canal Tech Awards winners are now, we caught up with icarusparts.com, who won the coveted Best Tech Startup of the year award in 2017, to see how the past year has been for them in their quest to conquer Birmingham – and the rest of the UK.
icarusparts.com founder, Joe Kibbler, started the Birmingham-based company back in 2016, after years of working within the automotive industry. The company is a new business model selling car parts online, explained Joe:
“Customers enter their registration number and select what they need – for example, new brakes. As we work with a number of brands, customers can choose a product based on their price point.
“Once customers have selected the parts they need they can choose one of our approved local garages to fit the parts for them. We pre-agree the labour cost with garages upfront – this means customers know exactly how much they are spending on parts and labour. One of our founding principles is providing customers with complete transparency for car repairs.”
And it’s this principle, as well as ease of use, that has enabled the company to grow substantially in just two years, being crowned as Best Tech Startup at the 2017 Tech Awards to boot.
This has enabled the company to grow even further, with Joe owing the achievements of his business to not just his hard work, but his team’s too:
“My role as founder is to develop the overall vision for the business and grow our customer base. We have a fantastic management team too, and much of our success is down to their dedication.”
Last year’s award win enabled the hardworking team to gain the plaudits they deserved, and has also set them up for future successes, giving them exposure and access to new contacts who could prove vital in the future:
“Being crowned Best Tech Startup gained us significant coverage, especially on the likes of LinkedIn,” Joe said. “We have a number of contracts with large automotive suppliers, and this independent award got us further credibility in the market.”
Now, almost a year on from being crowned as Best Tech Startup, Joe’s vision for the company hasn’t changed – it just involves further success:
“Our focus over the coming months is to increase our network of garages and to expand into multiple cities across the UK.”
We hope to see further success for our winners at this year’s awards!
The 2018 Silicon Canal Tech Awards will, as always, highlight and promote the amazing talent we have here in the second city.
Taking place on Wednesday 28th November at The Market Hall, at the Custard Factory, we’re looking forward to once again celebrating individuals and startups through to larger more established companies.
