Latest research from Monster has found that Birmingham is the best city to develop a career in digital outside of London.
The second city topped the ‘Digital Cities’ charts when put to the test against the rest of the UK. Monster, a global leader in connecting people to jobs, undertook the research, which analysed digital economy growth, available digital jobs and quality of life to create an overall score.
It further enhances Birmingham’s reputation as the destination for top talent in the world of tech and digital outside the capital, with the current 3,000 tech firms in the city set to grow even further in 2019.
On the results of Monster’s research, the company’s marketing director, Louise Goodman, said: “Our first Digital Cities ranking shows the digital industry is thriving all over the country, not just in London.
“With London fast becoming unaffordable for the majority of young people starting out their careers, we hope this ranking will give them confidence that there are exciting opportunities in their home or university cities. You don’t have to move to London to make it in digital!”
Birmingham topped the table with some impressive figures, with 437 digital jobs listed and a digital growth percentage of 33%. Combined with average salaries of over £43,000, average rent for a one-bed home coming in at £638 and a pint costing £4 on average, Birmingham has been found as a great city to both live and work in.
We can’t wait to see our city progress even more this year! You can view the dedicated Digital Cities page for Birmingham, as well as apply for digital jobs, here.
